Pichi Antillano
ArtistSince I can remember I’ve always been drawn to places that feelmonumental—spaces that are almost overwhelming—from the vastopenness of mountain landscapes to the raw yet calculated geometry ofbrutalist architecture, and everything in between. Something about theseenvironments pulls me in; they make me feel small, yet connected tosomething bigger. This sense of scale and the emotions they provokehave pushed me to explore themes of isolation, introspection, and thepsychological impact of space on the human mind.
Growing up in Venezuela, I often encountered the art of Carlos Cruz-Diezand Jesús Rafael Soto. Their approaches to color and perception areunconsciously living in my mind, shaping how I think about movement, light, and space. I’ve also been inspired by Rothko’s use of color fields—how a single color can have such an emotional pull and release. It’s thisfocus on color, simplicity, and tension that I try to capture in my own way.
My work seeks to evoke feelings of tranquility and contemplation whilealso challenging perceptions. I’m interested in using color and simpleforms to create a kind of visual calm that still carries weight. My goal isfor each piece to be an open space for thought—a place where simplicitymeets depth. I aim to create pieces that resonate on both personal anduniversal levels, inviting the viewer to explore the deeper connectionsbetween art, space, and the human experience.
